Submission Guidelines

Submissions Deadline: EXTENDED to Friday, November 1st by 11:59 PM  Friday, October 25th, 2024 by 11:59 pm.

Students, staff, and faculty of State College of Florida are welcome to submit.

Please read the following guidelines before submitting. The link for submission is at the end of the guidelines.

Types of work accepted include:

  • Fiction
  • Non-Fiction
  • Poetry
  • Photography
  • Visual Art
  • Music/ Audio
  • Short Film

All works submitted must original pieces. 

All submissions will be responded to before the end of the semester by email. The Elektraphrog staff strongly encourages you to check your email starting around two weeks after the deadline. We may send inquiries about your piece that could determine your piece’s acceptance.

Guidelines

Please use standard manuscript format when submitting work (link)

POETRY/FICTION/NON-FICTION:

  • Attached works should be sent as .docx or .rtf files.
  • We accept works in languages other than English, but English translation is needed.
  • We reserve the right to change the format and/or background of all submissions. If there is special formatting that is vital to the work, please indicate this at the top of the submission. We will make the effort to preserve the format of the work.

Word/ Line Count Limits

Fiction and Non-fiction: No more than 3,000 words.

Poetry: No more than 100 lines

VISUAL ARTS/PHOTOGRAPHY:

  • All art should be attached to email as a .jpg or .png file. The file should be at least 300×300 dpi.

Visual Arts we accept:

  • Photography
  • Sculptures
  • Paintings
  • Drawings
  • Graphic arts

SHORT FILMS/AUDIO FILES/MUSIC:

  • All works should be attached to email being sent.
  • Short films should be submitted under .mpeg4, while music and audio should submitted as .mp3.
  • Please include lyrics to all music files if applicable.
  • For all audio files, please do not include name in piece for fair publishing decisions. If you wish for your name to spoken in the piece please include that in the body of the email, we will accept the revised piece if, and after your work is selected to be published.
  • For all Short Films, please wait to include all persons names credited in the piece until the end for fair publishing decisions.
  • Be sure that your recording is clean sounding, as poorly recorded works have little chance of being published.
  • All films can only contain original or royalty free music.

Length of works:

Short films: Should be no more than 15 minutes long.

Music/Audio files: Should be no more than 5 minutes long.

Publication Details:

If chosen for publication, we will notify you via your submission email.

There is no financial or academic reward for being published in Elektraphrog.

If you are accepted for publication, you grant Elektraphrog First World Rights to publish the work. It will appear on the site and in print. In addition, it will be archived on the Elektraphrog website indefinitely.

The author or artist retains all copyright of the work, and can publish it as a reprint at any point after our magazine releases the issue in which the work appears. All other rights remain with the author/artist.

Elektraphrog reserves the right to dismiss any work that is felt to be inappropriate, poorly written, or uses copyrighted information.

Submissions

You may submit multiple pieces; however, send separate emails for each submission.

In the subject line of the email, include Last Name, Title, and Genre of work. For example:

  • Poe – “The Raven” – Poetry
  • Gilman – “The Yellow Wallpaper” – Fiction
  • Dali – “The Persistence of Memory” – Visual Art

In the body of the email, please include the following information:

  • Name
  • G00 Number
  • Title of work
  • Short third person bio (150 words max)
  • Genre of Work (Art, Fiction, Nonfiction, Poetry, Music, Film)
  • Attached file of work (.docx for text and .jpg or .png for images)

IMPORTANT: Do not share files from cloud storage. Please attach a file. We cannot access your work from the cloud.
