My Hero

by P. J. German

‘At that point Peter got up the nerve to ask,

“Master, how many times do I forgive a brother

or sister

who hurts me? Seven?”

Jesus replied

“Seven! Hardly.

Try seventy times seven.”’

Matthew 18.21-22

(The Message)

I’m supposed to tell you I forgive you

but I don’t know if I should or can

you see

I never knew it would be like this

or for this long

all the built up anger

you think I did this to myself

but you’re the man who threw me across the room

you’re the man who downed the bottle

then cast demons into me like Jesus did the swine

I might walk close to the edge,

but I won’t be jumping off the cliff any time soon
